Sony And LG Mobile rumoured to develop in-house chips for Xperia and LG Smartphone devices

Sony Mobile is considering the event of its own application processors to be used in mobile devices, in line with a report from sources. The report says that each Sony Mobile and LG decide to develop in-house chips, following on different makers that already do that like Apple, Samsung and Huawei.

If true, this might eventually mean a move aloof from Qualcomm and MediaTek because the 2 main chipset suppliers for Xperia devices so far. The report goes on to mention that world Unichip, the Taiwanese-based dedicated fabless ASIC supplier, has won development orders from “Asia-based telephone vendors”.

However, we’d exhibit caution on this rumour. Sony doesn’t have the buckets of money that the same firms have once it involves developing a class-leading chipset. Would this news worry regarding however competitive Sony may be? Would you favor Sony to use the most recent off-the-rack chips from Qualcomm or MediaTek? Or does one feel, this can be a very important step for Sony to differentiate itself? We’d like to your thoughts below.
