The e-tailer , which has invested $2 billion in India, has registered four times the sales during the festive season so far, compared with the corresponding period last year according to Amazon senior vice president and CFO, Brian T Olsavsky. The company offers 40,000 products a day so far this year on its platform and the number of sellers has grown more than 250% year-on-year.
As part of its Diwali sale Amazon has rolled out new deals every 30 minutes across categories. Earlier, in its The Great Indian Festive Sale, Amazon recorded four-times more sales this festive season as compared to the last year over the same period. However, Amazon has declined to share actual sales figures citing company policy.
The Diwali special deal marathon running until Wednesday will also include special “mid-night deals” from 12:00 am to 8:00 am every day in addition to the Blockbuster Deals that starts 8:00 am onwards. “Diwali shopping will be at its peak from next week. Meanwhile, its smaller Indian rival Snapdeal is running category specific one-day sale every Monday till November 11 with discounts running as deep as up to 80.Flipkart will start another sale on November 7 and 8 for Dhanteras and on Diwali only for home appliances. Shopclues has also announced a festival sale, offering discounts ranging from 30-70%.
